The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, or better known as FCA, is a group at Chantilly

that is found in other schools around the country and is supported by Campus Crusade Through Christ. In this group they discuss topics that are relevant to the school year and how faith is present in their lives. Anyone is welcome to join whether an athlete or not. The FCA is a group of students that is welcome to everyone even if students may not be religious. It is open for students to join at any time.

The first meeting that will be held is a waffle breakfast on September 23rd where everyone is welcome to come for a free breakfast and to participate in some introductory icebreakers. The group meets on Friday mornings before school at 7 o’clock in room 565. The meetings are casual and it is not mandatory to attend each one.  Sometimes there is a prayer by the flagpole in the morning and people may see the group and join them when they get off the bus. It is a time when students are able to offer a prayer intention they would like the group to pray for. Meetings are run by student officers who are usually responsible for bringing food and organizing discussions. FCA is looking to expand from mostly at school meetings to fundraising for more events.

“I have learned a lot and look forward to going every week,” member Jonathan Popham said.

Students may benefit from participating in many ways.

“I see changes over the school year. Students learn to do the right thing, to be examples, and to share in faith,” sponsor Tim Lambert said.

Students say they form a lot of strong relationships within the group and every Friday gives them a chance to reconnect. Friendships in the group are important to students because they help them form a solid faith and keep them accountable.

Having FCA with friends once a week lets us catch up with each other after long weeks. Having FCA also not only keeps our faith strong in church, but at school. Being with friends there and with God is a great combination,” member Calvin Kim said. “It’s fun and we learn a lot.”
