The Model United Nations is a club that imitates the United Nations and aims to educate students about civics, current events, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy.

In Model UN meetings, they generally debate on worldly topics that are topics of interest in today’s modern world. In debates each club is to represent their country’s point of view.

“Many of our meetings are filled with debates,” junior Yazan Hajoun said.

The Model UN also attends conventions and debates at different schools as well.

“We have a debate coming up in November,” Hajoun said. “Its still kind of chill since it is just starting up for the year.”

Last year, the Model UN traveled to three high schools for debates and this year they may do more.

“Last year we only did three,” Hajoun said. “I think there will be more this year. It really depends on the student government.”

Like most clubs at Chantilly, Model UN is just starting up for the upcoming school year and it first meeting is after school on Thursday, September 22 in the lecture hall.
